In 2010, the Village of Willowbrook celebrated the 50th Anniversary of its incorporation.
Mayor Robert Napoli appointed enthusiastic residents, local business leaders, elected officials and staff to a 50th Anniversary Committee to plan and organize events to commemorate and celebrate this milestone anniversary, the Village of Willowbrook, and its residents. The 50th Anniversary Committee planned three events to celebrate this milestone anniversary: Birthday Bash, Family Fun Day, and "A Dicken's of a Holiday".
In the fall of 2011, the Village submitted the Village's 50th Anniversary Celebration for consideration for the 2011 Governor's Home Town Award in the category of "History and Historic Preservation". Each year, the Governor's Home Town Awards recognize the best in volunteer driven projects throughout the state of Illinois. On October 26, 2011, the Village was selected as a recipient of the award.
As part of their presentation to a panel of judges in Springfield, the Village created a video highlighting the three 50th Anniversary events. The video can be downloaded here
The ultimate goal of the Willowbrook 50th Anniversary events was to celebrate and commemorate Willowbrook’s history through the promotion of community spirit and the building of camaraderie between Willowbrook’s residents, businesses and government. The events accomplished this goal by providing opportunities for Willowbrook residents, businesses, elected officials, and village staff to build memories through fun-filled interaction.
