Statement from State’s Attorney Berlin regarding HB3885

The Press Release from State's Attorney Berlin issued today regarding HB3885...

I applaud Representative Durkin for continuing his efforts to protect the health and welfare of his community. The residents of Willowbrook deserve a say in what type of business they will or will not allow in their community. Representative Durkin’s bill gives those residents a voice and allows them the opportunity to meaningfully participate in the democratic process. The new law regarding EtO emissions from the Willowbrook Sterigenics facility provides the strongest possible remedy legally available to reduce, control and monitor EtO emissions from the facility. The only way to guarantee the residents of Willowbrook and the surrounding communities clean air that is free of ethylene oxide today, tomorrow and for generations to come, is to completely eliminate the source of the EtO. I fully support HB3885 as introduced by Representative Durkin and will do what I can to help pass this potentially life-saving legislation.
