[ARCHIVED] DU PAGE COUNTY RESIDENTS CAN NOW TEXT-TO-911 IN AN EMERGENCY

DuPage County Launch of  Text-to-911

DuPage Public Safety Communications now accepts emergency texts from those who need immediate help but can’t safely call. If you’re in DuPage County and use Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile, you can text your exact location and emergency details to 911 and a dispatcher will respond.


Calling 911 is still the fastest and preferred method. But texting is available for:

 Individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have a speech disability

 Medical emergencies preventing speech

 Situations where speaking is unsafe

How to Text 911:

Enter the numbers “911” in the “To” or “Recipient” field.

 Know your location – Include your exact address or location.

 Text what you need – Police, fire, or medical assistance.

 Be clear – No abbreviations, emojis, photos, or videos.

 Stay calm – Answer dispatcher questions and follow instructions.


 Texting 911 is for emergencies only. Misuse is illegal.

 Dispatch cannot receive pictures or videos sent via text at this time.

 Do not text and drive.
