Willowbrook to use Merus, a botanical insecticide, for Mosquito Control
Willowbrook, Ill. -- (June 26, 2019) --- Willowbrook has begun its annual efforts to minimize mosquito populations and help reduce the risk of West Nile Virus for its residents. For the first time this season, the Village is planning an overnight spray treatment for adult mosquitoes on Sunday, June 30 (weather permitting). Willowbrook will be spraying with Merus®, a botanical insecticide that is OMRI Listed (Organic Materials Review Institute) and labeled for use in and around organic farms and gardens.
Merus 3.0 uses natural pyrethrins from chrysanthemum flowers as its active ingredient and is labeled as a botanical insecticide. It will be applied through a truck-mounted ultra-low-volume sprayer that disperses s fine mist of tiny droplets that work by making physical contact with adult mosquitoes in-flight.
Residents who have questions about the Village’s mosquito control program, want to report standing water or nuisance mosquito levels, or would like to sign-up for advance notifications of scheduled treatments are encouraged to contact Clarke through its online Resident Hotline: https://www.clarkeportal.com/hotline.
