A message from Mayor Trilla for residents...
Dear Residents,
I want to let you know about an important new grant funded assistance program, UNLOCK A CAREER- being offered by DuPage County’s Workforce Development Division, for those who have lost their jobs due to COVID-19. This division of the County government provides Federal Department of Labor grant-funded services to unemployed individuals so they may attend job training programs, earn marketable credentials, and secure employment that provides family-sustaining wages.
Individuals can qualify for up-to-$10,000 in federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) grant funding, (money that does not need to be paid back). Grants can be used to attend job training, certificate, or professional development programs in all the major industry sectors and career paths while collecting unemployment benefits. Many training programs are being conducted virtually at this time, and they can also loan laptops to individuals who do not have the proper equipment to take classes in that way.
The Workforce Development Division has also recently teamed up with their counterparts at Community Services to offer additional support for DuPage County renters laid-off or furloughed as a result of COVID-19. Through this partnership, rent assistance is also available to eligible households that will cover both back and future rent costs. Individuals can launch careers with higher earning potential or advance their career by attending training (either virtual or in-person) without having to worry about how their rent costs will be covered. To check eligibility requirements, please call 630-955-2039 or email: unlock@worknetdupage.org.
